Marseille manager reveals Michy Batshuayi transfer situation amid Spurs and Hammers interest

Pete Evans

Marseille interim boss Franck Passi says star striker Michy Batshuayi will leave the Ligue 1 club this summer, news which will be a huge boost to Tottenham and West Ham.

The 22-year-old, who will go to Euro 2016 with Belgium having scored 22 goals in all competitions for the French side so far this season, is said to be Slaven Bilic's main summer target and Tottenham are also said to be keen.

He recently spoke of his desire to remain in the south of France this summer and declared his love for the club but Passi, who is in temporary charge following the departure of Michel, says it is no secret that the Belgian forward is leaving.

"Everybody knows that he will leave," he told his press conference as reported by Get French Football News. "It is included in the accounts that Michy will be sold this summer. We will accept it. We know why players leave Marseille, the financials are not so enticing, we have to accept it."

Batshuayi has scored the only goal in his last two matches to help Marseille to back-to-back 1-0 wins.

I don't think we can passi up this opportunity.

Our financials can entice him I'm sure.

This chap. Or Lacazette. Should do the job nicely.

He's been included in the Belgium squad for this summer.

What's his view of iconic floodlights?

Vincent Labrune, Chairman of Marseille, has been telling all and sundry that he'll only sell him for a club record transfer fee, i.e. more than OM got for Drogba back in 2004, which was 37.5 million Euros.

Lacazette seems less risk as he has a little more experience as a couple of years older, but Batshuayi looks a great prospect, Dimi will know? Anyhow I think we should take no chances and buy both.

They're a key factor in where he goes.

Acardi, on the other hand, seems to be staying put.

“I have a contract until 2019 and there are a few years to go until then,” he is quoted as telling reporters at the event by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I will absolutely stay here.”

That's also pretty much what Michy said, and he signed a new 5 year deal about xmas too.

Dont matter about the contract, throw enough money at the club, agent and player and they will come.

Grumpster 6:01 Thu May 12
Re: Batshuayi definitely leaving Marseille this summer
Marseille are money whores who have a history of giving out longer deals to ensure they get the full whack on transfers.

No chance he'll be there next season, so hopefully he'll be with us.

You mean there's no chance he won't be there next season after the manager has said he is definitely leaving?? FMOB ;-)

Re: Batshuayi definitely leaving Marseille this summer
Well I can't be expected to read Trev, I need people to spell it out for me obviously!!! ha ha

If we end up with either Lacazette or Batshuayi after the season we've just had, then we're almost getting in to dream territory as to how far we've come.

Absolutely superb that the club is even mentioned in regards to these players without people laughing and saying we have no chance.

I mean aged 41, I spent 28 years loving us while at the same time knowing we weren't actually that great. It's our time - COYI

I'm happy to admit I know literally nothing about French football. Who seen as the better player by the majority, Lacazette or Batshuayi?

Buster 6:16 Thu May 12
Re: Batshuayi definitely leaving Marseille this summer
Neither do most on here, Trundle. Just look at a few goals on YouTube and stats on Wiki and make up your own mind from that.

Grumpster 6:18 Thu May 12
Re: Batshuayi definitely leaving Marseille this summer
Lacazette without a doubt for me, though the other chap is playing in a bloody awful team and has probably got them 5 places higher than they would be without him.
